This glaze originates from the volcanic eruptions of the Central North Island 1.2 million years ago when an enormous cloud of vaporized rock ash cooled in the atmosphere and blanketed the land. The ash then compressed to form the rock of our contemporary landscape.
The two materials of ash and clay are then fired in a gas kiln in reduction to 1300 degrees.
